Celebrate Fall With a Burst of Colour in Your Garden PDF Print E-mail

Welcome the new season's colours!  The brilliant reds, vibrant oranges, gilded yellows, and the muted browns and lavendars all play a hand in creating a spectacular fall garden. The burning bush  (Euonymus alata) is turning fire red as are some of the leaves of the sumacs and red (Acer rubrum) maples. The Katsuras and Aspens display lovely golds and purples as do the Ashes (Fraxinus). Fall bulbs planted in the spring arrive showing their autumn beauty and right now you can find a mum (Chrysanthemum) in most every colour and every size.

Fall is a great time for planting, too!  The air is cooling while the soil temperatures are still warm. New lawns created now will become established and thrive through the winter dormancy and sprout up nice and green come spring. Trees and shrubs that are transplanted at this time of the year are less apt to be stressed due to the seasonal changes of cooler air and still-warm soil temperatures.  Some perennials will benefit from being divided at this time as well. This is a wonderful time to plant those spring flowering bulbs too. One of the first flowers to bloom in late winter/early spring is crocus and daffodils. Some not so familiar ones would be SnowDrops or Galanthus nivalis that literally peak out from under the snow!  So plant now for some lovely spring colour!

There is still time to pick peaches and the apple picking season is upon us. Get out to your local farms and check out the pickings!  What's your favourite apple? Happy Gardening!

New Beginnings

Spring is a time of renewal, a time of rebirth. That's what this season is all about.  The once dormant Off The Garden Path web site is now sprouting new shoots, and will soon be in full bloom.

In addition to Gardening, we will also focus on Recipes, Scrapbooking, Home Decor, and a whole lot more.

In addition to our feature presentations, we will also have a discussion forum, where you can ask questions, get answers, and have round table discussions about almost anything under the sun.  Passionate debate is welcome, but please be polite.
